Modification of coconut shell charcoal for metal removal from aqueous solutions

Treatment of the contaminated aqueous solutions to improve their quality is indispensible for reuse resulting in an emergent challenge develop facile, nontoxic and less energy consuming techniques purify water. Present study therefore aimed at synthesis adsorbent using agricultural waste i.e. coconut shell. The charcoal obtained from shell was modified by acid activation manganese doping following a simple chemical route. products were characterized scanning electron microscopy, dispersive X-ray analysis infrared spectroscopy. Preliminary studies carried out compare adsorption potential (AMCSC) doped (MDCSC) removal chromium (VI) iron (III) solutions. Various physicochemical parameters such as dosage, initial metal ions concentration pH studied. MDCSC found be better metals compared AMCSC removed more efficiently than synthetic 56.10% optimum conditions 0.6 g/L 10 mg/L = 3. effect adsorbents on color conductivity also noted; slight variation all with maximum 91.67% observed.
